Where are you right now?

Families call us at three different moments. Pick the one that sounds like yours and we'll tell you what to do first — even if you never hire us.

I'm starting to worry about Mom.

What we'd do first

Walk the house with you and name the risks out loud: the stairs, the stove, the pill organizer nobody's refilling. Then start small — four hours, two mornings a week. Parents accept help more easily before a crisis forces it.

Dad's coming home from the hospital.

What we'd do first

Get a caregiver in the house the day he's discharged. The first two weeks home are when falls and readmissions happen. We cover meals, bathing, medication reminders, and rides to follow-ups, then step down as he steadies.

I've been doing this by myself for a while.

What we'd do first

Give you a night off this week. Respite care can be one afternoon, a weekend, or a standing overnight so you sleep. You don't have to hand over everything — pick the shifts that are breaking you and keep the rest.

[Replace with a real Google review.] My mother was discharged on a Friday afternoon and I had no idea what to do. Someone was at her house Saturday morning. Three months later the same caregiver is still with her and Mom asks about her on her days off.

[Replace with a real Google review.] I live four states away and was terrified of exactly this situation. I get a note after every visit. When Dad skipped two meals in a row, they called me before I had to find out the hard way.

[Replace with a real Google review.] My father refused help for two years. They suggested starting with rides to his appointments instead of calling it care. He didn't argue. Now she cooks for him three days a week.

[Replace with a real Google review.] I hadn't slept through the night in a year. We started with two overnights a week. That's it — that's the whole review. I sleep now and my mother is still in her own house.

careberi Cares · Pro bono program

Free home care for New Jersey families in financial hardship.

Cost should not decide whether someone gets to stay home. Through careberi Cares, we set aside a number of fully pro bono caregiving hours each month for seniors and adults with disabilities who can't afford care and don't qualify for other help.

  • No cost to the family — the same trained, background-checked caregivers as our paid care.
  • For NJ seniors and adults with disabilities facing a genuine financial gap.
  • Anyone can nominate — a family member, a social worker, a neighbor, or the person themselves.

Straight answers

Questions families ask us

What does it cost?

Hourly care runs $32–$38 an hour depending on the level of help and the time of day, with a 4-hour minimum per visit. Overnight and live-in care are billed at a flat daily rate. You'll have the exact weekly number in writing before you commit to anything.

How fast can you start?

Usually within 48 hours, and same-day for hospital discharges when we have coverage in your area. Call — even late — and we'll tell you honestly what we can staff.

Do you offer free or reduced-cost care?

Yes. Through careberi Cares, our pro bono program, we set aside free caregiving hours each month for New Jersey seniors and adults with disabilities in financial hardship who don't qualify for other help. Anyone can apply or nominate someone — a family member, a social worker, or the person themselves.

My parent says they don't need help. Now what?

Most parents say that. It usually goes better when the first visit is framed around something specific and non-personal — meals, driving, housekeeping — rather than "you need a caregiver." We do this every week and we're happy to help you plan the conversation before anyone shows up.

Who are the caregivers?

Employees, not contractors — which means they're covered by our liability and workers' comp insurance, not your family's homeowners policy. Every caregiver clears a national background check, a driving record check, and reference calls, and completes ongoing training including dementia care.

Do you take insurance or Medicare?

Medicare doesn't pay for non-medical home care. Most families pay privately. We do bill most long-term care insurance policies directly and can help you file the claim — bring the policy to the home visit and we'll read it with you.

What if we need to change or stop?

Give us 24 hours' notice to change or cancel a shift. There's no long-term contract and no cancellation fee. Care that goes up after a hospital stay and back down as your loved one recovers is normal — we expect it.

I live out of state. Can I still manage this?

About a third of the families we work with are long-distance. You get visit notes after each shift, a direct line to the care manager, and a call from us if anything changes — a fall, a refused meal, a bad week.
